The fact that I can`t find a legal quad bike rental on the street in the UK suggests that you are facing some very serious problems. I suggest you contact the Surrey factory rental company first and see if they are actually willing to rent you a quad bike (you may find that they only rent to companies and not individuals) and would be happy if you took the vehicle for such a long trip. And no, you can`t just attach a gas tank or two to the quad. I doubt the rental company will be happy with it anyway, but you have to transport the fuel in legally approved containers and it`s up to individual gas stations to decide how much they allow you to fill those containers (up to a maximum of 2 x 5 liters). The Surrey grizzly bear is actually street legal, and they rent it for 350 (insert pound symbol here) a week, that`s not a problem. But 50 miles with a full tank? Damn, it`s almost nothing. 15 liters per 100 kilometers, transport by one person. I think that even a Bugatti Veyron cannot waste as much fuel compared to the weight of the vehicles. This is simply a problem, not just for the south-north journey. I think I could take a bottle of gas or two – if I can attach my backpack to the front rack – which I guess I`m not. MMMH difficult.
I am very sorry that I have not fully clarified my statement regarding “based on my experience in the states where I have driven, the legal speeds are very low compared to those that would apply in the UK to similar roads in similar places”. Excuse me. If you want to travel further afield, head to Skipton in North Yorkshire or Formby near Liverpool. Skipton has 160 acres and some of the most powerful mountain bikes you`ll find on any UK circuit, while Formby offers some of the muddiest swamps in the whole of the UK on a stunning 120-acre path. I don`t see any legal buggies for rent on the CC Supplies website: Manchester is undoubtedly one of the most vibrant cities in the UK with world-famous sports teams, cultural attractions and nightlife. But we`re not here to tell you about any of this – we`re here to tell you about each of Quad Nation`s heartbreaking off-road tracks just minutes from downtown! Restrictions too, although I read something about damage that depends on the type of use of the vehicle and that is carried out by the company. As owners of several ATVs, these are very specialized vehicles, and even though they are legal on the street, this is only intended for short trips. Driving from London to Scotland would be a huge journey that would take several days, considering your time constraints, it certainly couldn`t be an option. The mere fact that you drive much slower than most other vehicles puts you in great danger. Jumping on a quad bike when you don`t have much experience and attempting a road trip would be pure suicide in my opinion. If the only reason to use a quad bike for this trip is that you can stop quickly to take pictures, I suggest renting a scooter instead. Perfect for this type of trip. Find one with a sidecar if you have to, although again dangerous, it would still be better than a beginner on a quad. I drive a very small and very old car at low speed on the roads and I know how scary it can be, I would never have fun driving my quads on the road, even if they were legal on the road.
Please let us know what you decide. Since a car is no more or less inflexible than a quad or tricycle or buggy or even a scooter, I think you`re actually looking for a fantastic road trip on a quad bike or tricycle or buggy. The wind in your hair and the wide road, so to speak. Very well. But it may well not happen. Minimum age, whatever. Sometimes life is like that. You need to think of alternatives if the quad/bike/buggy doesn`t work for you.
No previous quad experience is required for any of our quad biking sessions I`m planning a tour of Scotland on a quad bike, but I`m struggling to find a copy that rents a legal quad bike for the street for a week. I should be grateful if you could make suggestions. You can at least rent a tricycle in Manchester which is closer to Scotland than to London: it takes a long time to go from London to Scotland by quad bike… Many don`t have very high top speeds. And you only have a week. You can expect to take at least 7.5 hours from London just to get to Edinburgh, even if you hit the legal limit of 70 miles per hour on motorways, road conditions are good, and there are no traffic jams or rain. And the Yamaha Grizzly 450 on the website you mention has a top speed of around 50 mph.. I have no idea how big a trailer is or how heavy the trailer is plus a quad bike.
