Karen Loewy has dedicated her professional life to promoting the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and people living with HIV. Since 2013, she has been Senior Counsel at Lambda Legal, the oldest national legal organization working for the full recognition of the civil rights of LGBT people and people living with HIV. Loewy`s work focuses on litigation and advocacy to protect the relationships and families of same-sex couples and transgender people, strengthen anti-discrimination protection for the LGBT community, and address issues affecting LGBT and HIV-positive seniors. Light is a national leader in LGBT litigation and leads Lambda Legal`s class action lawsuits, which seek access to Social Security benefits for same-sex survivors who have been denied benefits due to unconstitutional anti-LGBT anti-marriage laws.
