Official time in Brazil (UTC-3) is time in Brasilia, the country`s capital. The Brazilian territory, including the oceanic islands, has four time zones, all west of the Greenwich meridian. The second pin (UTC-3) is three hours below UTC and is considered Brazilian Standard Time. In any 15-degree range between meridian pairs, there is a one-hour variation – meaning that the assumed times in Brazil vary between two and five hours less than Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Since 1985, Brazil has continuously introduced daylight saving time, in which the clocks of some states are advanced by one hour at a certain time of the year. In the period from the first Sunday in November to the third Sunday in February, daylight saving time is introduced in the Southern, Southeast, and Midwestern regions. Daylight saving time is only observed in the Southeast, Midwest and Southern regions. In 2010, the proposal was made to change the whole country into a single difference with UTC, with Brasilia time as a basis. But such a proposal was rejected.

President Jair Bolsonaro today (25.04.2019) signed a decree abolishing the measure at a ceremony at the Palario do Planalto. UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) stands for Coordinated Universal Time.
