All applicants to George Brown College must demonstrate an acceptable level of English proficiency in one of the following ways in order to be considered for admission. Applicants from eligible countries who do not meet George Brown`s English requirements may be offered conditional admission to a post-secondary program through George Brown`s English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. (The College issues Conditional Acceptance Letters (CLOA) for new applications submitted without the Academic IELTS/TOEFL/PTE. The CLOA specifies a specific date by which the student must submit the language requirement.) Note: GBC also accepts the Duolingo language test and IELTS indicator. We are not able to accept all applicants who meet the general and program-specific minimum requirements. Prove that your secondary and/or post-secondary education was completed at a recognized institution where English is the primary means of instruction. The program of study must be relevant to the admission requirements for the specific program(s) (e.g., An advanced diploma or degree is required for certain postgraduate programs) For proficiency in International English, including admission requirements by home country, visit the International page: Admission tests are used to determine if you meet college admission requirements. Note: If you have already taken an admissions assessment (as part of your application process), your admissions assessment results will also be used as placement results. You will be placed in the EAP starting level, which corresponds to your lowest score in all sections of the test. Placement assessments determine whether you are ready to take college-level credit courses in English and/or math in the first semester, or whether you need to take a foundation course first to further develop your skills. For programs that require placement tests in English and/or math, learn more at the Assessment Centre. After receiving an offer of admission, you must apply for a study permit. Please note that study permits are not issued in Canada. You must apply online or at the nearest Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate.
